We did it! We made it through the Sil together once again (or for the first time, in some cases). I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did. That being said, I think we’ve earned something a little less dense for our next meeting.

Based on your votes, we’ll be returning to Tales Before Tolkien this September. Rather than proceeding straight through every story in the book, let’s stick to those whose influence on or relation to Tolkien is more strongly attested.

Sunday, September 14, 2025 – 7:00 pm – virtual

“The Story of Sigurd” retold by Andrew Lang
“The Folk of the Mountain Door” by William Morris
“Black Heart and White Heart” by H. Rider Haggard

If you were at our January 2025 book club, you may already have a copy of this book. If you need one, you can order a copy with a 21% discount from Quail Ridge Books in Raleigh. Just tell the bookseller (or write in your online order notes) that you’re purchasing for our club. You can also pick up a copy from Bookshop.org, which benefits independent bookstores all over the country.

Our book clubs are held virtually via Discord. You don’t need a camera or a microphone to participate; most of us prefer to type. If you would like to hop into voice chat during the meeting, you’re welcome to do so, but the voice channels will not be moderated.
